Green Day are planning to start work on their new album later this month after 2005 proved to be their most successful year to date.

The band enjoyed huge critical and commercial success following the release of their album 'American Idiot' and last year saw them embark on a huge world stadium tour.

However, lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong insists the band are looking to the future and will start planning a new record by the end of January.

He says it was a crazy year and it's kind of sad for it to end, but that they don't have any regrets.

Although the band have no firm ideas about the new record, he insists the creative process has already started.
