Allen has taken to London like the proverbial duck and sets this romantic drama in a posh tennis club where love and complications abound.

It's one of Allen's more recent better films - his first made outside of New York - and the role of the ambitious young tennis coach won't do Rhys-Meyers any harm.

If there are flaws they come from Allen's not-quite understanding of English ways, but for a pleasing evening out - highlighted by Mortimer's wonderful performance - it serves, get it? a useful purpose.
