The Producers

Director: Susan Stroman

Cast: Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Uma Thurman, Will Ferrell

We can't, it seems, get enough of the Mel Brooks classic swipe at Broadway and its dodgy methods of raising money for even more dodgy productions … like one whose show-stopping song-and-dance routine is Spring-time for Hitler.

The l968 film brought us the crooked producers whose scam was to raise money for a show they hoped would fail, thus allowing them to close it and pocket the money. The more recent Broadway and West End stage version kept the joke going and now comes the second film, every bit as good, if not even better than the original.

The cast, with Lane and Broderick bringing vast stage experience to the project, is quite brilliant. Thurman, in particular looks as if she thoroughly enjoyed herself and didn't want it to stop. You will too.
