An unknown folk-pop duo shot to top spot in the UK singles chart with a song about a JCB digger.
Nizlopi, who are Luke Concannon and John Parker, both 27 and from Leamington Spa, reached number one with JCB Song, released on their own FDM label.
Luke said: “This feels quite amazing really because we just didn’t think that we would get a number one.
“It is great that a tiny family-run record label from Warwickshire can go up against acts such as Westlife and the X Factor winner who are on massive record labels.”
Their new entry went straight in at the top ahead of Westlife’s new release, which also features Diana Ross, which came in at number two.
The two new hits nudged the Pussycat Dolls tune Stickwitu two places down to number three while Madonna also slid by two to number four with Hung Up.
Seasonal novelty single Jingle Bells/U Can’t Touch This, by Crazy Frog, was a new entry at five.
Also new into the top ten were Robbie Williams at eight with Advertising Space and McFly at nine with Ultraviolet/The Ballad of Paul K.
Ugly by Sugababes and My Humps by Black Eyed Peas were at six and seven, sliding from third and sixth spot.
Westlife saw another single, You Raise Me Up, plunge six places to number 10 in the list.
In the album chart Curtain Call – The Hits, a compilation by rapper Eminem, remained at number one for a third week.
Robbie Williams’s Intensive Care and Westlife’s Face To Face held on to the second and third slots.
X Factor winner Shayne Ward is odds-on favourite to leapfrog Nizlopi in next week’s chart and take the Christmas number one spot.
Bookies William Hill have the 21-year-old Mancunian at 1/7 with Nizlopi second favourite at 4/1.
Spokesman Rupert Adams said: “Nizlopi have done a fantastic job beating Westlife but they are going to struggle to stop the X Factor winner Shayne from taking the Christmas number one.
“It is a real pity that Nizlopi did not come out this week as then they would have given Shayne a real run for his money.”
Coral’s had Shayne Ward at 1/8 and Nizlopi at 4/1.
