The husband of French actress Beatrice Dalle was on Wednesday jailed for 12 years after being found guilty of raping a woman and holding her prisoner in her own home for five days.

Described as "a danger", Guenael Meziana, 31, was sentenced by the court in Vannes, Brittany, for the 2001 attack on his 29-year-old victim.

Meziana had admitted hitting the woman, but claimed sex was consensual and denied holding her against her will.

He married Betty Blue star Dalle, 40, while in prison at the Hermitage jail in Brest in January. The couple met while she filmed Tete D'Or, produced inside a prison.

Speaking in court on Tuesday, before the verdict was delivered, Dalle said: "Before our marriage, he told me everything. I repeatedly made clear to him that what he had done was unacceptable.

"If I had any fears for my physical well-being, I would never have married him."
