Keeping Mum

Director: Niall Johnson

Cast: Rowan Atkinson, Kristin Scott Thomas, Maggie Smith, Patrick Swayze, Emily Fox

Atkinson, who can be annoyingly OTT in his Mr Bean persona, emerges with controlled credit as the Pastor who is too concerned with penning the perfect sermon to notice that his wife (Thomas) is having an affair and his children are going off the rails.

It’s a low-budget comedy; helped by an excellent cast, including Swayze, making something of a comeback, as a lothario; and it’s almost completely effective. Smith, too, is terrific as a woman with a secret.

Star Rating: 4/5
