Robbie breaks ticket sales record

Robbie Williams has smashed a Guinness World Record by selling more than 1.6 million tickets for his 2006 World Tour in one day.

The previous record was held by Justin Timberlake’s former band Nsync, which sold one million tickets for their No Strings Attached US tour in one day five years ago.

Williams’s tickets, snapped up on the first day of sale, are valued at an estimated €117m.

The star will take his place in the 2007 edition of the Guinness World Records.

The book’s editor Craig Glenday said: “We are thrilled that Robbie has brought home this highly prestigious and much celebrated record – it’s a proud day for British pop music.”

Williams also holds the title of most Brit Awards won by an individual for his 15 gongs.

Tickets for his new tour, which culminates at the new Wembley Stadium, went on sale on November 19.

Advance ticket sales from robbiewilliams.com were not included in the 1.6 million figure.
