DeNiro to return to mobster roots for new film

Robert DeNiro is set to return to his hit man roots.

The Goodfellas star has been in talks to play a Mafia man in forthcoming film The Winter of Frankie Machine.

In recent years, De Niro has left behind his gangster image, preferring to work on tame comedies like 'Meet the Parents', and 'Analyse This'.

Based on a soon-to-be-published novel by Don Winslow, the film would see De Niro playing Frankie, a former mobster who leaves the violent industry to run a bait shop.
