Green Day won't star in American Idiot movie

American rockers Green Day have rubbished claims they will star in the movie adaptation of their award-winning album American Idiot.

Frontman Billy Joe Armstrong confirms the Holiday hitmakers will be taking a central role producing and scripting the film, but insist actors will depict them.

He says: "I'm going to be involved in some of the writing and production for the movie, which will be like a mix of The Who's albums and films, Tommy and Quadrophenia.

"You won't see us appearing in starring roles because we're not actors. We will leave that to the professionals."
