Yoko apologises for 'June with Spoon' comment
Yoko Ono has apologised to Paul McCartney for insinuating that his songs are trite.
Accepting an award on behalf of John Lennon last month, Ono said Lennon had sometimes felt insecure about his songs, asking âwhy they always cover Paulâs songs and never mine.â
âI said, âYouâre a good songwriter, itâs not June with spoon that you write.ââ
After reports of the apparent slight circulated, Ono apologised in the latest issue of Rolling Stone magazine.
âI certainly did not mean to hurt Paul, and if I did, I am very sorry,â she says.
McCartney has sometimes clashed with Ono, Lennonâs widow.
She objected when McCartney reversed the traditional âLennon-McCartneyâ songwriting credit on his 2002 album, Back In The US. Onoâs spokesman accused him of attempting to ârewrite history.â
McCartney had earlier complained that Ono wouldnât let him take credit for Yesterday, a song written entirely by McCartney.
