Clooney believes in love at first sight

Hollywood heart-throb George Clooney is a firm believer in love at first sight because his parents got engaged on their first date, and are still happily married decades later.

The O Brother, Where Art Thou? Actor's own experience of marriage was less long-lived when he divorced Talia Balsam in 1993 after four years of marriage.

But, even though he has had a string of failed romances with beauties including Renee Zellweger, Krista allen and most recently British model Lisa Snowdon, Clooney maintains his belief in instant love.

He says: "It happened to my parents. My father was emcee of the Miss Kentucky pagaent, and my mom was in it.

"He asked her on a date and asked her to marry him immediately. They're still together so I know love at first sight can work."
