Original Warriors still a classic

Walter Hill’s fine gang cult film gets the special treatment in The Warriors Directors Cut (Paramount), probably inspired by demand and the fact it is now being remade.

The plot is simple enough — a messianic gang leader is killed during a conclave of New York gangs, and now the remaining members must fight their way home.

Hill’s film led to several gang deaths at its original screenings, but the violence seems subdued by today’s standards. Interesting storybook links are employed in this director’s cut, and the extras are juicy, including a Hill commentary.
