Street star 'Maria' ties the knot

Coronation Street beauty Samia Ghadie tied the knot with her businessman beau today.

The 22-year-old, who plays hairdresser Maria Sutherland in the soap, married 29-year-old Matthew Smith at St Philips Church in Alderley Edge, Cheshire.

The businessman popped the question with a £15,000 (€22,200) diamond and platinum ring at the Vatican in Rome, on New Year’s Day this year.

Following in the footsteps of glamour girl Jordan, the couple signed a deal with a glossy magazine and details of the ceremony were kept a closely guarded secret.

Miss Ghadie arrived at the ceremony sheltered by large umbrellas, to ensure lurking paparazzi photographers could not get a glimpse of her dress.

Poor weather did not dampen the spirits of friends and family, and Coronation Street stars past and present attended the ceremony.

Tina O’Brien, who plays gymslip mum Sarah Platt, wore a stylish combination of black trousers, black top and silver beaded shrug, while Kate Ford, the Street’s feisty Tracy Barlow, opted for a floral skirt and dark brown vest.
