Nicole Kidman refused to socialise at Hollywood functions when she first married Tom Cruise - because she was certain nobody wanted to hear what she had to say.

The Oscar-winning actress, whose 11-year marriage to the Mission: Impossible star came to an end in 2001, admits she felt out of place when she first left Australia for Tinseltown.

She says: "When I first came to Hollywood, I would sit at dinners and wouldn't speak. I was 22 when I got married, and I had this huge, famous, movie-star husband. I felt like nobody wanted to hear anything I had to say."
