John Lennon's former lover May Pang was devastated when the Beatle died in 1980, because he told her he wanted to renew their affair weeks before his tragic assassination.

Pang enjoyed a two-year romance with Lennon following his separation from Yoko Ono in 1973.

But she has slammed claims their relationship ended in 1975, when he returned to Ono, insisting he was desperate to continue their affair because he still loved her.

She says: "John and I saw or talked to each other right up until his death. We were still in love.

"I was in my apartment in 1980, the last thing he said was: 'I'm trying to figure a way to get you to come out and see me. I miss you. I just need you.'"
