Rocket Man's gig linked with Live 8
Plans are being discussed to broadcast some of Elton John’s concert in Dublin on Saturday as part of Live 8 events taking place around the world, it emerged today.
The music star is set to perform at the Live 8 concert in London on Saturday afternoon before jetting off for a gig in Dublin.
A spokeswoman for the organisers of the Dublin event said discussions were under way to record some of the show for the Live 8 broadcast, although nothing has yet been confirmed.
In addition, Irish fans will get to enjoy his London performance, following arrangements to broadcast coverage of the Live 8 concerts at his Dublin gig.
Elton John will be performing at the Hyde Park concert – which aims to raise awareness of poverty in Africa and put pressure on world leaders ahead of next week’s G8 conference in Scotland.
Concert organisers will be opening the gates at the RDS at 1pm and will be providing two giant screens so fans can watch John and a host of other stars as they take to stages around the world.
The screens will continue to broadcast the Live 8 footage until the first act comes on at the Irish concert.
Elton John is being supported in the Dublin gig by Canadian Rufus Wainwright and British singer James Blunt.
