There has always been something funny - peculiar and ha-ha - about kung fu-martial arts films; all that yelling, impossible action and defying of gravity. They're always a bit of a hoot.

Recently, of course, they have become stylish and visually beautiful.

But here we're back to the chuckles, while not leaving behind the overly-violent action. And there's certainly a lot of action, too much violence perhaps, in Chow's sort-of take on the ordinary folk-strike-back Magnificent Seven plot in which the put-upon inhabitants of Pig Sty Alley - they're not, you understand, from society's better section - turn on their evil tormentors from the Axe Gang.

Good fun all round.
