Sex symbol Scarlett loved her Lost look

Scarlett Johansson has Sofia Coppola and movie photographer Lance Accord to thank for her sex symbol tag, because she fears she'd never have been noticed had it not been for a scene in which she wears sheer underwear in Lost in Translation.

The 20-year-old actress admits she was reluctant to wear the see-through panties at first, until director Coppola modelled them for her, and then she was more than pleased when she saw how the film's director of photogr aphy made her look sexy onscreen.

She tells men's magazine Playboy: "When I first saw it (the scene) I silently thanked our director of photography, Lance Accord. I'd told him that if I looked like I had any lumps or bumps he'd never work in this town a gain… It doesn't look like my ass; it looks like a really lovely ass.

"I told Sofia Coppola that I didn't want to wear sheer underwear. She said, 'OK… but I think it would look really great.'

"She said, 'Look, I'll put on the sheer underwear and lie on the bed. If you think it looks strange, we'll make it some other kind of underwear.' She put them on and looked fantastic, of course."

Johansson loves the fact that she's now someone others stare at because she's a self-confessed starer: "I would never really discourage someone from looking at me. You're talking to someone who has a huge staring proble m herself... I like to watch people."
