Broadcast threat to Celebrity Love Island

Programme-makers are struggling to get tonight’s live episode of Celebrity Love Island on air because the island has been battered by stormy weather.

Producers have been attempting to get presenters Patrick Kielty and Kelly Brook to the Fiji island, which is mostly in darkness.

But programme-makers said that 6ft waves were making the seas too rough and dangerous for the presenters and crew to cross to where the celebrities are staying.

One of the show’s contestants – who include the likes of Abi Titmuss, Lady Isabella Harvey and Rebecca Loos – was meant to be evicted tonight.

A spokeswoman for the ITV show, said presenters, crews and production staff were unable to get on or off the island, which has been hit by power cuts.

She said: “A tropical storm is currently ravishing the island resulting in power cuts and the residents on the island being stranded.

“Every effort is being made to get an hour-long live show out tonight.

“However the likelihood is that we will be unable to do so and therefore, with no access to the island, we will be unable to evict one of the contestants.”

If this happens, TV bosses will air a repeat of yesterday’s show followed by some live and unseen coverage.

A Met Office spokesman said: “It’s very windy and there’s heavy rain, but it’s not officially a storm in that area yet.

“It’s expected to develop and a storm is brewing, particularly south of the island.”
