Officials fear chaos at G8 protest
Bob Geldof's command for a million people to storm Edinburgh on the first day of the G8 summit has sparked fears for public safety in the Scottish capital.
The rocker is urging people to kick off a massive protest march on July 6 by taking the day off from school or work to make a stand - but aid agencies and police are both anticipating chaos.
An official from a leading agency within the Make Poverty History coalition says: "It's not an organised event and therefore not something organisers are going to have any control over.
"There are concerns that things could go wrong."
Local assistant chief police constable Ian Dickinson says: "We knew about the possibility of it and we were advised strongly against it.
"It is physically impossible for one million people to come to Edinburgh."
