Slater in court on sexual assault charge
Actor Christian Slater appeared before a New York court today charged with sexually harassing a woman on the street.
He was arrested at 2am after allegedly attacking a female pedestrian on the street.
Prosecutor Vanessa Puzio told Manhattan’s criminal court that Slater had been arguing with his girlfriend when he walked up behind the alleged victim and grabbed and squeezed her buttocks.
The woman, who was not identified, flagged down police to report the incident.
Slater was found and identified a few blocks away, and was captured on video as he was led away in handcuffs, allegedly intoxicated.
Puzio said he told the officer: “I didn’t do anything. I’m suing you and the police departent.”
The actor appeared in court wearing a blue shirt and jeans. He was charged with third degree sexual abuse but did not enter a plea and was told to return on July 14.
Slater is currently appearing in the Broadway production of Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie.
The incident was not his first brush with the law. In 1998 he served 59 days of a three-month sentence after assaulting a girlfriend.
Slater has starred in films such as Interview with the Vampire in 1994, Broken Arrow in 1996 and Heathers in 1989.
