In a way it hardly matters how good the last of the historic Star Wars saga is - OK, so it's stunning, it's much darker than any of the others, it has more spectacular sabre fights and it's a lot better than at least a couple of the previous ones (most notably the one which starred Liam Neeson and the annoying Jar Jar Binks) - just that after 28 incredible years Lucas has achieved his dream of fashioning one of the screen's classic series.
We can now all go back to the first film which starred a youthful Harrison Ford and the ill-fated Mark Hamill and set the episodes into their proper slot; the storyline has been rounded up.
And what a storyline it has been, based on the most simple of ideas concerning a mundane trade war over routes among the stars; but based also around some of the screen's most memorable characters: heroes, villains, nifty robots and dangerous spaceships.
We shall not see its likes again. Quite a thrilling journey into space it has given us all.
