Sharon Stone tells of baby joy

Hollywood actress Sharon Stone told today of her joy at adopting her new baby son and declared: “Single women can do it all.”

The 47-year-old divorcee announced earlier this week she had adopted a child and named him Laird Vonne Stone.

She already has a four-year-old son, Roan, whom she adopted with ex-husband Phil Bronstein.

“I couldn’t imagine that it could get better after having the experience of being a mother to Roan. But the only thing better than one is two,” she said during an appearance at the Cannes Film Festival.

Stone divorced newspaper editor Bronstein in 2004 after five years of marriage.

But she said friends and family would help her bring up the two boys. “Laird coming into my life has been the best time of my life,” she said. "I’ve had more support, love and kindness than I’ve had at any other time of my life.

“I can do it, and it shows a single woman can do it all.”

Stone admitted it was hard to combine single motherhood with a career. But she said it was possible and insisted: “I would encourage all single women to stand up and show that you can be these things in the world.”

Stone was in Cannes to launch the Basic Instinct sequel.

In Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction she reprises her role as bi-sexual murder suspect Catherine Trammell.

The film is set in London and British actor David Morrissey plays Doctor Michael Glass, a psychiatrist who becomes involved with her.

Stone said: “I have a fantastic co-star. He’s very handsome and if you have seen his work you know he’s an exquisite actor. I really enjoyed working with him because he’s so funny and talented and sexy.”

Morrissey, star of political drama State of Play, said he loved working with Stone on the film, which is currently shooting in London.

“It was a pleasure and the scenes are a challenge,” the Liverpool born actor said. “The scripts are wonderful and it’s been really fun to do so far.”

The original Basic Instinct, which co-starred Michael Douglas is best remembered for the infamous scene in which a knickerless Stone uncrossed her legs.

She teased: “I’ve a few more surprising elements in the new film.”
