Drug content of Springfield biopic upsets friends
A planned biopic of Dusty Springfield has upset friends who fear it will disproportionately focus on her battle against drug and alcohol addiction.
Movie studio Universal's plans for a biography of the I Only Want To Be With You singer, who died aged 59 in March 1999, have angered her pals who worry the film will unfairly portray Springfield in a bad light.
Her former backing singer Simon Bell says: "I'm worried. They're going to want the salacious details and there's more to Dusty than that.
"They say they want to concentrate on the 1960s which is not when most of that stuff happened. The worry is they will shoehorn the drink and drugs into that period."
