Lauper heading to Broadway

Cyndi Lauper is reportedly heading to New York City's Broadway to star in a production of classic musical Sweeney Todd.

The singer is said to be in talks to play Mrs Lovett, the cannibal cook in the Stephen Sondheim production.

A source says: "Cyndi came in to audition and just blew the producers away. She was incredibly prepared, knew the music and knocked their socks off.

"The only trouble is, she's never done musical theatre before. But they're seriously considering taking the risk."

The show is set to open in the autumn.
