James Hewitt, Kate Lawler and Victoria Silvstedt stepped out of the ring today to launch ITV’s new Celebrity Wrestling show.
The show pits the likes of former EastEnders actor Marc Bannerman, Liberty X singer Michelle Heaton and presenter Jeff Brazier against each other.
The contestants are eventually named male and female celebrity wrestling champion after a series of bouts over six weeks.
Speaking at the launch today, Silvstedt, 29, said: “It was much harder than I expected it to be. I think we all found that. People fought really hard on the night.”
The actress and model added: “It is really physical. I’ve got bruising, I’m red and I’ve banged my head against the floor. We’ve been fighting like cats and rats.”
Big Brother star Lawler, 24, said she joined the ITV show, which begins on ITV1 and ITV2 on April 23, because she wanted to get fit again.
“I didn’t want to be tired while running up the stairs. I like to inspire people to exercise because I think this nation is a bit lazy,” she said.
Hewitt, who was branded a “love rat” for his relationship with Princess Diana, said: “I’m really pleased I did it.
“I have been treated shabbily in the past but you have to take the rough with the smooth.”
Others taking part in the show are TV presenter Jenny Powell, Page 3 girl Leilani Dowding, children’s TV presenter Mark Speight, showjumper Oliver Skeete and athlete Iwan Thomas.
