Having made a brilliant original, Japanese director Nakata was lured to Hollywood to repeat the chills … and, alas, failed.

Picking up several months after the events of the first movie this one comes sans originality and shock value. Possession is one thing, but when it comes devoid of the possession of atmosphere what's the point. There is even less point when the shock elements have been sold down the river to cheapjack and ill-considered gizmos. The script offers no more satisfaction and a brave, but ultimately doomed, performance from Watts sinks horribly.
