Thompson written off as a granny

British actress Emma Thompson is stunned movie studios are already approaching her to play grandmothers - because she's only 45 years old.

The Love Actually star, who has a five-year-old daughter, Gaia, with actor husband Greg Wise, was recently honoured in Vogue magazine's poll of Britain's most glamorous women.

However, although the fashion world appreciates her youthful beauty, casting directors consider Thompson the perfect candidate to sign up for old and crinkly roles.

She explains: "From time to time I'm approached to portray grandmothers. I always say: 'Not just at the moment but thanks for the offer.'"
