Actor Russell Crowe was given FBI protection after an al-Qaida plot to kidnap him was uncovered, he has revealed.

The New Zealand-born star said he first learned of the threat in the months leading up to the 2001 Oscars ceremony in which he won the best actor award for his role in the film Gladiator.
