Delta's mother pleads for kind welcome for daughter

Delta Goodrem's mother Lea pleaded yesterday for Australia to be kind to her daughter as the singer returned home after a torrid stint abroad.

Lea Goodrem, who also manages the young star, made her plea after the British media blamed the 20-year-old for the break-up of Brian McFadden and Kerry Katona.

Delta was booed by a section of the audience when she and Brian performed at the Childline charity concert and she was even subjected to chants of "Kerry, Kerry" from the crowd.

Adding to her woes, an ex-boyfriend who dated Delta as a teenager revealed intimate details of their sex life to British tabloids.

The singer, who arrived at Sydney airport yesterday, said she was not intimidated by the negative reaction in Britain to her new relationship.

She said Australians understood she was the same girl who left the country four months ago.

She also said she was happy about introducing her new boyfriend to her homeland.
