A disappointing horror story, which doesn't make enough sense to be truly scary and frightens us only because of its waste of such a sterling cast.

When his wife, already estranged, suffers something awful, father (De Niro) takes his daughter (Fanning) to live in a small upstate New York town; where she finds an imaginary friend, Charlie.

It could have been a fine, hair-raising tale to set alongside such recent classics as The Others, What Lies Beneath, The Sixth Sense; but it never comes close since it relies too heavily on as many horror clichés that director Polson can cram in.
