Quirky Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet drama Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind has beaten The Aviator to win Best Original Screenplay at this year's Writer's Guild of America Awards.

Quirky Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet drama Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind has beaten The Aviator to win Best Original Screenplay at this year's Writer's Guild of America Awards.

The 2004 movie written by Charlie Kaufman, about a couple who erase each other from their minds, beat out competition from Martin Scorcese's The Aviator, Garden State, Hotel Rwanda and Kinsey to pick up the prestigious award.

The awards act as a strong indicator to possible Oscar success this Sunday.

Bittersweet comedy Sideways beat off competition from Million Dollar Baby, The Motorcycle Diaries, Before Sunset and Mean Girls to pick up the Best Adapted Screenplay for Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor.
