A truly brilliant film, the story of Spanish writer Ramon Sampedro, who spent 30 years fighting to end his own life legally following an accident which left him paralysed from the neck down.

Amenabar brings us a touching and observant story which is highlighted by a gem of a central performance from Bardem; you will not see a better one this year.

The story is full of compassion and strength and it will leave you with a lasting feeling that you have watched an outstanding use of cinema as an artform.
