Spurlock honoured by Writers' Guild of America

Super Size Me director and star Morgan Spurlock won the Writers’ Guild of America's inaugural Documentary Feature Writing gong at last night's ceremony in Los Angeles.

Organisers of the annual event decided to create the new category following the growing popularity of documentary feature films and were deeply impressed by Spurlock's personal investigation into the effects of eating only McDonald’s fast food for a month.

Producer Brian Grazer presented the award to Spurlock and his backers, Roadside Attractions, Samuel Goldwyn Films and Showtime Independent Films.

During the making of the film Spurlock put on 25 pounds and the fast food giant subsequently announced plans to ditch supersized meals - although no link to Spurlock's movie was admitted.
