I am desperate but not gay, says 'Housewives' star Cross

Actress Marcia Cross is making it clear that while she plays a desperate housewife, she is not gay.

The red haired Desperate Housewives star said she is not a lesbian after being quizzed on her sexuality by US TV interviewer Barbara Walters questioned last night.

Rumours about her sexuality circulated when American tabloids reported she was planning to pose for gay magazine The Advocate.

“I’m not,” said Cross.

She said she wondered how the lesbian rumours started.

“Well, it was very odd,” said Cross. “And I, I just assumed this is what comes of being 42 and single. I don’t know if they just needed to find a reason why I wasn’t married.”

Each day, a different star from the hit Desperate Housewives TV series, shown on Channel Four in Britain, has been a guest host on Walters’ talk show.

Cross said she didn’t know what all the fuss was about.

“I do think it was really weird, though, that there was all this curiosity about something like that – about sexuality,” she said. “And I thought what a world we live in that that’s so important.”

Cross, who plays uptight housewife Bree Van De Kamp, is puzzled by all the attention to her sexuality.

“What a world we live in that that’s so important,” Cross said.
