Doherty's Moss thoughts saved him from jail 'hell'

Troubled English rocker Pete Doherty has paid tribute to his on-off girlfriend Kate Moss, for giving him the will to live during his recent jail time.

The former Libertines frontman, 25, was arrested last Wednesday on alleged assault and blackmail charges and was forced to spend six days behind bars after he failed to find £150,000 (€218,000) bail.

Luckily for Doherty, his manager James Mullord put up the money yesterday and the star was released from north London's notorious Pentonville Prison.

Doherty says: "Inside prison, I exchanged my phone credits for cigarettes so I didn't speak to anyone outside. When I came out, I rang the two people I love the most to tell them I'm ok - my mum and Kate.

"Prison was hell on earth. At night the noise was horrible and there is nothing more terrifying than the sound of a prison waking up. My cell stank of vomit and I felt the walls were closing in. I thought I was going to die.

"I felt like crying but the thought of Kate on the outside kept me going. I was going through hell because of my heroin cold turkey."

In exchange for Doherty's revelations in today's Sun newspaper, the publication has agreed to pay the rocker's £12,000 (€17,400) rehab bill.

Doherty has vowed to get sober, for the sake of his new love Moss, who he began dating only three weeks ago.

He explains: "I want to clean my act up and look good before Kate and I have a romantic evening."
