Rock star set to be freed
Rock star Pete Doherty was today set to be released from jail after £100,000 (€145,000) bail was finally put in place.
His manager James Mullord produced a £100,000 (€145,000) banker’s draft at north London’s Highbury Corner Magistrates Court, paving the way for Doherty to be released.
Doherty, 25, ex-singer with the Libertines and on-off boyfriend of supermodel Kate Moss, has spent four nights behind bars at Pentonville Prison after problems producing his £150,000 (€218,000) bail.
Mr Mullord, representing Doherty who now fronts Babyshambles, said: “The bail is finally in place.
“We just had problems coming up with a personal security of someone who had £100,000 (€145,000) in their bank account – trying to fudge it did not work.”
Mr Mullord, who was now on his way to Pentonville, said he had not spoken to the singer since he went into custody six days ago.
“He hasn’t called me, his mum or Kate,” he said.
“Hopefully he will be cleaner now than when he went in because he’s been in there six days now.”
