The majority of teenage cinema-goers believe films at too strictly censored in Ireland, according to a survey commissioned by the Irish Film Censor.

More than 90% of respondents said they believed censorship was a good idea for younger age groups, but more than half also said they believed the censor was too strict in applying classifications.

The Film Censor said three quarters of respondents went to the cinema at least once every two months, with more than half going at least once every month.

Ninety-five per cent of the more than 1,000 teenagers questioned said they had seen a film intended for an older age group.
