Radio station under fire after airing sick tsunami song
A New York hip-hop radio station has come under fire after mocking the victims of the 26 December tsunami tragedy in south east Asia.
Hot 97 host Miss Jones played the parody of 'We are the world' called The Tsunami Song during her morning show earlier this week, which upset listeners with lyrics like, "You could hear God laughing/Swim, you bitches, swim."
The sick chorus features the line, "You'd better run, or kiss your ass away/Go find your mommy, I just saw her float by/A tree went right through her head/And now your children will be sold into child slavery."
Jones and her crew immediately denounced the song but continued playing the song, which was also posted onto Hot 97's website.
Station controllers and producers have been inundated with furious emails and phone calls, prompting them to suspend Miss Jones and her on-air team indefinitely.
Station bosses have announced they will donate a week's pay from each of the morning show team to tsunami-relief efforts.
