Entertainers line up for tsunami appeal show
Top Irish musicians and comedians have lined up a series of benefit concerts which aim to raise €100,000 for the tsunamis disaster appeal, it emerged today.
Dublin’s Vicar Street will play host to two star-studded gigs at the start of next month, while the Comedy Circus rolls into town on January 16. All proceeds will be donated to the Irish Red Cross.
Acts including Bellx1, David O’Doherty, Mark Geary, Dr Millar, Eddie Bannon and The Chalets, have given up their time to play on Tuesday, February 1.
Next day David Kitt, Jason Byrne, Mundy, Turn, John Henderson, Dermot Carmody, and Life After Modelling take to the stage.
The Comedy Circus includes stand-up comedy, sketches and music from Des Bishop, Apres Match, Joe Rooney, Dave McSavage, and Gift Grub’s Mario Rosenstock.
Other special guests have also been lined up for the three nights and more will be revealed over the coming weeks.
Ticketmaster has waived all fees and commission on tickets for the events, and the company has agreed to match any donations made by staff to the appeal.
Public donations have so far raised more than €4.5m for the Irish Red Cross relief efforts across the Indian Ocean region.
With sell-out shows expected, the musicians hope to pull in up to €100,000 for the disaster appeal.
A fund-raising auction will also be held on both nights, and supporters have been asked to offer items worth more than €150 to go under the hammer. About 1,000 tickets for each night are available from Ticketmaster priced at €25.
