Adam Sandler's love scene with his onscreen wife Tea Leoni for his latest film was a painful experience as she beat him up in bed.

The scene in Spanglish called for Leoni, who is married to David Duchovny in real life, to pound on the star's chest and the actress took the role to heart.

Sandler recalls: "It was hurting. The camera kept rolling and Tea kept whacking. It did hurt my chest.

"After take six she was still going for it. My make-up girl would have to run in between takes and put flesh colour make-up back on my chest."
