Nirvana star up for auction

Nirvana fans are rushing onto the internet to bid to win a day with the iconic band's former bassist Krist Novoselic.

The star is inviting bidders on eBay to join him on a private plane ride and lunch.

One lucky Nirvana enthusiast, hoping to gain an exclusive glimpse into the band, will be picked up from a west coast airport in America and flown to a plush restaurant of their choice.

However, Novoselic's offer is not for his own financial gain - proceeds from the auction will benefit People For The American Way, which bills itself as "a non- profit, non-partisan organisation committed to promoting political awareness, civic participation and providing legislators with the support they need to counter the agenda of the extreme right and protect against encroachments upon our freedoms and civil rights."

ovoselic says: "I am happy to share the wonders of aviation and remind the winners to be careful during the most dangerous phase of flight - the drive to and from the airport."

The highest bid currently stands at $2,000.
