No steam in Enduring Love

Enduring Love

Director: Roger Mitchell

Cast: Daniel Craig, Rhys Ifans, Samantha Morton, Susan Lynch, Bill Nighy, Andrew Lincoln

Cert: 18.

A British film which doesn’t quite cut the mustard, even though it is based on an Ian McEwan novel.

A freak balloon accident leads to a death and on to an unhealthy obsession with Craig’s character’s girlfriend (Morton) by one of the survivors (Ifans).

It sounds promising but such is not the case since the film simply, and all-to-quickly, runs out of steam, largely by taking itself too seriously. The acting isn’t bad, nor is the directing, but somehow you get the feeling that everybody just lost interest in trying to elevate the film into some relic of decency.
