Bloom accompanies Bosworth at premiere
Film beauty Kate Bosworth had some A-list support at her movie premiere tonight in the shape of boyfriend Orlando Bloom.
Orlando made a rare public appearance at the Leicester Square screening of Beyond The Sea.
But the British heartthrob arrived at the cinema 15 minutes after Kate because he wanted her to have the limelight all to herself.
“It’s her night,” said Orlando, 27.
“I came tonight just to support her. She’s fantastic in this film.”
US-born Kate, 21, looked stunning in a black cocktail dress by Yves Saint-Laurent.
She plays America’s sweetheart Sandra Dee in the biopic of Fifties crooner Bobby Darin, who is played by Kevin Spacey.
“I knew absolutely nothing about Bobby Darin before this film, but now I’m a huge fan,” Kate said. “There is darkness and tragedy in the story, and it was a dream for me to land this part.”
The film, already tipped for an Oscar, was a labour of love for Spacey.
The 45-year-old produced, directed, co-wrote and starred in the film, and sang all 18 songs on the soundtrack.
The double Oscar winner has long been fascinated with the story of Darin, who rose from poor beginnings to become one of the biggest stars of the 1950s and 1960s, with hits including Mack The Knife, Dream Lover and Beyond The Sea.
He married Dee and they became Hollywood’s golden couple.
But he died in 1973, aged just 37, from a heart condition brought on by rheumatic fever he suffered as a child.
“Making this film was the most fun I’ve ever had in my entire life,” he said.
“Bobby Darin was one of the greatest entertainers the world has ever known, and yet, because he died young, he’s been kind of forgotten.
“This is my tribute to someone I think was a remarkable talent.”
Spacey revealed that Dee, who now lives as a virtual recluse in Los Angeles, approves of the film.
“She called me last week and said she loved it,” he said.
Celebrity guests at the premiere included Barbara Windsor, Angus Deayton, Esther Rantzen and X-Factor stars Rowetta Satchell and G4.
Westlife, whose new Rat Pack album features Bobby Darin hits, are due to perform with Spacey at the after-show party.
The film, which also stars Bob Hoskins and Brenda Blethyn, opens tomorrow.
