Almond says accident was 'life-changing'

Singer Marc Almond has described his motorcycle accident as a “humbling and truly life-changing experience”.

On a message posted on his official website, the Soft Cell star says that he has “been very low” but he says “the darker days of the ordeal are hopefully behind me”.

Almond, aged 48, suffered serious head injuries and underwent emergency surgery following last month’s crash.

Much of the accident “remains a blank” but he has pieced together events from friends and witnesses.

“I know it will be quite a while before I’m back to normal, though hopefully it won’t be as long as thought before,” he says.

Almond, whose 1981 single Tainted Love was a worldwide hit, was riding pillion on a motorbike in London when it was involved in a collision with an oncoming car.

He expressed his “eternal thanks” to fans, doctors and nurses, family and friends, and the artists, musicians and bands who supported him through the accident.

He said: “All these things together have helped me find an inner strength. I am grateful in so many ways for all the support – it has been a humbling and truly life-changing experience.”
