A rubber ring, pillow, hairbrush and a pair of sunglasses are just a few of the luxury items the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Contestants are taking into the jungle, it was revealed today.

The 10 personalities made the choices on the eve of being sent to their camp at Murwillumbah near Brisbane on Australia’s east coast.

Most have chosen practical items to make their stay in the jungle as relaxing as possible, apart from actor Antonio Fargas who opted for style over comfort.

The 58-year-old American, who played the iconic character Huggy Bear in the US TV cop show Starsky and Hutch, said: “I’m bringing a selection of sunglasses to Oz and will choose my favourite pair just before going into the jungle.”

Diana, Princess of Wales’s former butler Paul Burrell, 46, is more concerned about having something soft to sit on and opted for the inflatable rubber ring.

“I’m hoping there’s going to be some water we can use it in. Or maybe to sit in it around the campfire, it may be comfortable to use as a chair. It’s enormous actually,” he said.

Former East 17 bad boy Brian Harvey, 30, has chosen a cap, comic Vic Reeves’s wife Nancy Sorrell, 30, picked tinted moisturiser, while Gossard model and reformed drug addict Sophie Anderton, 27, has taken a photo of herself and boyfriend, nightclub boss Mark Alexiou, 29.

Comedian Joe Pasquale, 43, will be carrying a fold-up chair into the jungle. “I don’t want to get piles from sitting on the cold floor,” he said.

Three Degrees singer Sheila Ferguson, 57, opted for a hairbrush, club owner and DJ Fran Cosgrove, 26, an exercise ball, and ex-All Saints Natalie Appleton, 31, a pillow.

Ever the journalist, Janet Street-Porter wants to take note of what happens.

The 57-year-old said: “I’m bringing a black notebook. Every time that I travel I do a lot of travel writing, and I keep a diary of what happens to me and I write it up afterwards.”

Early favourites to win the reality show were the glamour girls Sorrell, Anderton and Appleton, but the bookies are now backing the high-pitched comic Pasquale to be crowned king of the jungle.

William Hill have made the stand-up their first choice with odds of 7/2, second is Fargas, 6/1, followed by Appleton, 8/1, while Coral make the comedian 4/1, the ex-All Saints star 9/2, and the American actor 6/1.
