Latest R Kelly whistle-blower charged with extortion

A Chicago man who threatened to go public with videotapes he claimed featured the troubled soul star R Kelly having sex with a professional athlete's wife has been charged with extortion.

Derrick Mosley was also charged with operating a scheme to defraud upon arrest on Monday.

The people allegedly appearing in and connected to the sex tape weren't identified in the criminal complaint against Mosley, although news networks in the Chicago area are naming Kelly as the man featured on the video.

The trouble for Mosley began at the beginning of the month when he approached Rufus Williams, who acts as agent for the unnamed athlete, with his claims.

In an affidavit obtained by music industry trade paper Billboard, Mosley, claiming to be a community minister, stated "he was very upset and concerned about the tapes", and "he wished to speak to Individual A (the wife) about reform and her moral standing".

Williams reported the telephone call to the FBI.

The FBI affidavit does not make it clear as to whether the videotapes actually existed or whether Mosley's alleged remarks might have been part of a bluff.

On November 11, Mosley called Williams and said he wanted $20,000 (€15,400) immediately, according to the affidavit.
