Three Irish writers make literary award nominations
Three Irish writers have been named on the list for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award 2005.
The list of 147 eligible titles includes Martin Malone for his novel The Broken Cedar, Gerard Donovan for Schopenhauer's Telescope and Colum McCann for Dancer.
The nominations were received from 185 library systems in 51 countries.
English author Mark Haddon's The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time was the libraries’ favourite with 23 nominations, followed by Canadian author Margaret Attwood's Oryx and Crake which received 12, Monica Ali's Brick Lane with 10 nominations and DBC Pierre's Vernon God Little on seven nominations.
The shortlist will be announced on March 8, and the winner on June 15.
The six-member international panel of judges includes Galway poet Rita Ann Higgins and the winning author will receive €100,000.
