Brit soap role for Dynasty star

Former Dynasty star Kate O’Mara is to join British soap Family Affairs.

The 65-year-old star played Joan Collins’s vindictive sister Caress in the popular eighties series Dynasty.

She will join Five’s daily soap in the new year and star in 16 episodes.

The Leicester-born actress, who also featured in Howard’s Way, will play Chrissy Costello’s (Kazia Pelka) steely mother Jackie Lawrence.

O’Mara said she was “looking forward to the challenge”.

She said: “I’ve never worked on a British soap before so, although I’ve only just joined, I can see it’s going to be fast and furious, with no time for rehearsing or discussing the scripts.”

Series producer Alison Davis said: “We needed someone who can carry off a tough, steely character with conviction.

“Kate’s played a number of strong, hard-nosed women and Jackie’s going to have the same cool, emotionless exterior.”
