Renee says Bridget's shape just isn't hers
Her own weight has dropped off since filming ended on the Bridget Jones sequel - but Renee Zellweger has railed against society’s obsession with being thin.
The 35-year-old was thought to have gone from a size six to a 14 to reprise the role of the hapless thirtysomething in Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.
She began to put the weight on five months before filming by indulging in Krispy Kreme doughnuts, ice-cream and Kit-Kats.
Now the Texan star has been accused of slimming down too much, with some saying she looks a shadow of her former self.
But the Oscar-winning actress says she lost the weight because being large like her film character Bridget was not her “natural shape”.
She tells Hello magazine: “We have a real obsession with wanting to be very thin these days, and I think it sends a very negative message.
“Believe me, I didn’t find that I was any less happy than I was being thin, when I had that extra weight.”
She added: “There were some who said ‘You might consider keeping some of that!’ I have to say I agreed with them, but that’s not my natural shape”.
Zellweger will appear with co-stars Hugh Grant and Colin Firth at the premiere of the Bridget Jones sequel in London tomorrow night.
